Inside Aural the Aurora-tailed Unicorn

Aurora-tailed unicorns and magical little creatures, their tails and mane pulsate with colours depending on their emotions making it look like an aurora in the sky. They are able to do this due to the ability to add and disperse pigments within their hair follicles. Their horns are like a fingerprint, each horn is unique in length and colour to the individual unicorn.

Aurora unicorns are found at the highest point of Wunderkammer in the area of Snow Peak in the Alpine Ridge region, some say the venture into a land in the sky.

I wanted to do something a little different for my second unicorn doll and incorporate the use of vibrant colours on a darker body. I decided to dye some faux fur to create a kind of aurora effect which would then become the tail, I sought my reference from the Aurora Australis, utilising the pinks and yellows found in the phenomenon.

Aural has a resin face and hooves that were cast from an original sculpture hand crafted by me. Her body is made from a thick pile faux fur which was designed and sewn by me, her tail and mane were hand dyed while maintaining a soft feel. Aural has a wire armature inside making her fully poseable, her face was furred by hand and then painted in acrylic paints. Her horn was sculpted using a squishy clay, making it more durable and shatterproof.

Aural is approximately 20x10cm head to tail.

Aural will be up for grabs in my Etsy shop this Friday between 9-10am AEST. Alternatively you can check me out on my social media pages below. Also check out my Society6 and Redbubble shop for prints and more.
