The Selix is a mythological creature that once roamed the land of Wunderkammer, there are rumours that these creatures still roam the land, however there has been no confirmed sightings and they are very elusive. The Selix is a small deer like creature with hooves, long ears, a goat like face and two backward facing horns. Unusually females also have these horns, although are smaller than males, they are said to bring good luck.
The Selix can be found in a small area called Rickets Point in the Central Highlands region.
For a long time I've been wanting to create a series of Wunderkammer original creatures, these creatures would be created from scratch a look different to any living creature. The first sculpt from this line is the Selix, a creature resembling a small deer. I first sketched some ideas out of what I wanted this creature to look like, when I came to sculpting I let the sculpt develop naturally and tried not to follow the sketch too closely. I originally had a vision of a neutral coloured coat with some striping and/or spots.
Carvide has a resin face and hooves that were cast from an original sculpture hand crafted by me. His horns were sculpted using a squishy clay so they're less fragile. His body is made from thick faux fur which was designed and sewn by me, he has a wire armature inside making him fully poseable, his face was furred by hand and painted in acrylic paints.
Carvide is approximately 30x15cm head to tail.
Carvide will be up for grabs in my Etsy shop this Friday between 9-10am AEST. Alternatively you can check me out on my social media pages below. Also check out my Society6 and Redbubble shop for prints and more.
