Inside Soleil Nightwing Phoenix

Nightwing phoenixes are stern creatures, they generally are nocturnal and tend to linger in the shadows. Their glowing red eyes make people a little uneasy as they do not know what's lurking in the darkness, this is a common technique to confuse prey and threats. These phoenixes are solitary creatures, but will find a life long mate, reuniting again come mating season, then separating once the chicks are grown. A mating pair will usually have 3-4 eggs and will defend the nest with their life, both partners will take turns incubating the eggs, while the other hunts for food.

Nightwing Phoenixes are generally found throughout the Black Tribal Lands of Cry India, mainly around the Shadowed Wilds.

A new phoenix creature for a new region, I wanted to make a phoenix with a darker colour scheme, mainly using blacks and blues with striking eyes. The red eyes contrast well with the dark blue making the critter have a sterner more mysterious look. I had a bunch of left over feathers from my Trico doll that I made a while ago, the feathers were never a good fit for the Trico, but I immediately knew I wanted to make some sort of bird or griffin from them. After playing with some different coloured blue furs I had, I decided to go with a dark blue shorter pile faux fur rather than the Mongolian faux fur I usually use for my phoenix dolls. I really liked the way this fur looked, I also decided to try something a little different for my phoenix head and add fur rather than just all feathers. I initially did this technique on my griffin dolls, so wanted to transfer it to my phoenix dolls too, and really glad I did.

Soleil has a resin face and claws were cast from an original sculpture hand crafted by me. His body is made from thick faux fur which was designed and sewn by me, he has a wire armature inside making him fully poseable, his face was furred by hand and painted in acrylic paints.

Soleil is approximately 30 x 18cm head to tail. Ethically sourced feather were used for the wings.

Soleil will be up for grabs in my Etsy shop this Friday between 9-10am AEST. Alternatively you can check me out on my social media pages below. Also check out my Society6 and Redbubble shop for prints and more.
