Inside Kōyō the Autumn Kitsune

Autumn kitsunes are peaceful creatures, they appear around fox shrines located in forests around the world, some say these foxes live inside the statues and are awoken at the first turning of the leaves, returning to the statues once the autumn season is over. Many of the locals leave offerings at the base of these statues at the beginning and end of the season to thank the kitsunes for protecting the forest and bringing with them the colour of autumn.

Autumn kitsunes are found through the world, but are mainly present in the Tall Tree's and Kalatha areas of the mainland which the natives call Nanclendara. These areas are heavily forested and remain almost untouched.

I had a question asking what my favourite doll was to create, I thought about it and came to the conclusion that the kitsune was one of my favourites to do, so in that spirit I decided to create one!

As the last kitsune I made was spring inspired, I decided to go with an autumn inspired one as it is autumn here in Australia, my favourite season! I decided to go with the same concept as the spring kitsune, and change the cherry blossoms to maple leaves. I also added a little extra colour variation to the coat so it resembles a maple leaf in the autumn time.

I'm now wondering if I should make a kitsune seasonally! I have winter and summer seasons to go, I think summer will be the hardest one.

Kōyō has a resin face and paws that were cast from an original sculpture hand crafted by me. Her body is made from thick faux fur which was designed and sewn by me, she has a wire armature inside making her fully poseable, her face was furred by hand and painted in acrylic paints.

Kōyō is approximately 30 x 18cm head to tail.

Kōyō will be up for grabs in my Etsy shop this Friday between 8-9am AEST. Alternatively you can check me out on my social media pages below. Also check out my Society6 and Redbubble shop for prints and more.
